Daith Piercings: The Honest Answers to The Questions We Get Asked The Most

If we had a penny for every time someone asked "does a daith piercing actually cure migraines," we could probably retire.

So let's answer it properly and cover everything else you actually need to know too.

What Is a Daith Piercing?

It sits in that innermost fold of cartilage, just above your ear canal. Small, neat, and one of those piercings that looks understated but pulls a whole ear stack together.

Daith Piercings and Migraines

There's no solid clinical evidence that a daith piercing treats or prevents migraines. The theory comes from it sitting near an acupuncture point but that's about as far as the science goes.

Some people do feel better afterwards — that could be placebo, distraction or just coincidence. If migraines are a real issue for you, please see a doctor rather than relying on a piercing to fix it. We'll never oversell it as a cure even though we get asked constantly.

What we say? It's a cool piercing placement that'll elevate your ear stack and if it helps with your migraines that's an incredible bonus!

Does It Hurt More Than Other Cartilage Piercings?

It's cartilage so will it hurt more than a lobe? Yes. Most people describe a sharp pinch and pressure that's over quickly but because of the thickness in that part of the ear, some feel it more than a helix or tragus.

Healing Time

A daith piercing can typically take 6 to 9 months to fully heal, sometimes longer. The golden rule while it's settling? Keep pressure off it while you sleep — this is genuinely the biggest thing that slows a daith down.

Styling It Once It's Healed

A daith pairs beautifully as the anchor piece in a curated stack — think a helix hoop, a couple of lobe studs, and the daith tying it all together.
