Why You Need a Piercing Pillow for Your New Piercing...
If you’ve just had a new piercing you’ll know the struggle, sleeping suddenly becomes a whole lot more complicated.
Our biggest piece of advice when it comes to caring for a new piercing? Don't sleep on it!
And that's where a piercing pillow comes in...
What is a piercing pillow?
Our piercing pillow is designed with a hole in the middle to give your ear space to sit comfortably whilst you sleep. The clever split in the middle? This allows you to adjust it to suit you and any new piercing placement.
Instead of your new piercing being pressed directly into your normal pillow, your ear sits inside the centre of the piercing pillow helping to reduce pressure and friction.
It’s a simple idea, but if you’ve got a fresh piercing it can make a HUGE difference.
Why is sleeping on your piercing a problem?
We’ve all done it.
You fall asleep comfortably, roll over in the night and wake up with that horrible “oh no…” feeling because you’ve slept directly on your new piercing.
Repeated pressure and friction can irritate a healing piercing and make it feel sore, swollen or generally unhappy.
This is especially important with cartilage piercings which can take longer to fully heal.
Is a piercing pillow worth it?
In our opinion? 100% yes!
It's cute, comfortable and practical to help you heal your new piercing quicker and with less complications. It’s also compact enough to take with you when travelling because nobody wants to leave their piercing pillow at home and spend their holiday sleeping on an irritated ear!
Which piercings can benefit from a piercing pillow?
A piercing pillow is particularly useful for fresh cartilage and high lobe piercings, but we use ours day in and out whether we're healing or not.
Your piercing pillow is just one part of aftercare...
Of course, a piercing pillow isn't a magic fix.
You still need to follow your piercer's aftercare advice. Spray with saline twice daily, dry when it gets wet with the cold setting of your hairdryer and avoid touching, twisting or playing with your jewellery.
It’s also worth being mindful of anything else that might catch or rub against your piercing including hair, headphones and hats.
But sometimes it’s the little things that make healing a lot easier.
So, do you need one?
A piercing can take time to heal, so anything that helps minimise unnecessary pressure is a bonus.
And honestly, once you’ve experienced sleeping without accidentally squashing your new piercing you might wonder how you ever managed without one!
If you’re planning your next ear piercing or you’ve just left the studio with a fresh new addition to your ear stack, don’t forget to look after it while you sleep.
Your ears will thank you.
